Little things

I'm been absent again... But now I'm back. :D I have a big update next post but you'll have to settle for some little ones in this post. First, I installed a light. By myself. I was terrified but I didn't get electrocuted or anything but my arms did get sore from holding up the light for so long.

This was the before light. We had these all over the house. Blech.

I picked up a Scrabble game at a thrift store the other day for .97 cents. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

Then I wanted some signs for our trash cans to distinguish them.

Aren't they so cute?

My Closet. Yes, the whole room.

This was our spare room. When just he lived here. I wish I could find a way to describe just how GROSS this house was when I moved in. But you'll just have to believe me. The nasty stained mattress? Yea.... we burned that.

You're probably having a heart attack right now but I promise, this room has a happy ending.
I plan to redo that oaky dresser. I just have to get around to it.

No I didn't take my laundry basket out before I took a picture. You gotta keep it real, right?

This side of my room looks cluttered but it's actually very organized. I promise. :D

Hubby's beat up Dresser

Welcome followers! Thank you for all the wonderful comments!

This dresser was awful... don't believe me? Look.....
Sorry for the crappy quality. I had to crop it out of another picture because I forgot to take a true before. :(

I loved the pulls but I didn't love the color. I tried Brasso for these handles but I just didn't like the color still.

Some Updates and Our Guest Room

I've updated this  post with a before picture. And this post with an after.

This room used to be my Hubby's room when some of his friends lived with him. Then this happened:
Yup. The roof leaked and caused a piece of sheetrock to fall in. We moved him into another room and this room sat empty. Ish. We fixed the roof and this room became our storage room. Until I moved in. You see, I love stuff. When my husband married me, he also married all my stuff. I have an antique, full size bed frame and matching dresser that are an heirloom. They had to go somewhere. Why not here? Here's the before of the whole room.

Boring bachelor room.
And after.

Please ignore the everything stuffed under the bed. I've been doing purging I promise. I'll post a picture of how much I'm getting rid of.
The T.V. is only in here because my nephew had to watch 'mobies' and the living room was being selfishly hoarded by my hubby.
This was actually the back of a chair but the rest of the chair was beyond repair. This was all I could save. I sprayed painted it teal even though my old camera makes it look blue, and I put a picture hanger on the back. Isn't it cute?

My new buffet!!! :D

I had been looking for a buffet I could afford for what seemed like forever! At least, I knew I wanted one when we refinished the one for my Mother in Law, and I've been looking since then. Finally! I found one! :D It took a lot of work though....

We peeled off the entire top veneer, and then sanded the softer underlayment until we hit solid wood! :D

Then we sanded the top and stripped the sides and front.

See that small border? I love it!

We hit a snag. If you ever do this know that you MUST sand until your arms fall off! :(

See those darker spots? Of coarse you do, you're not blind. Or if you are why are you looking at before and afters? Hmmmm... Anyways, those darker areas are where the glue is. The stain soaks into the old glued spots darker than the wood. So we had to strip and sand again. And by now by we I mean mean he, because  that belt sander hates me. I *heart* my little sander. :D

Here's the details of it being sanded. :D (yes that is my favorite smiley)

We bought a dremel tool and etched out the design on the doors. Again, I mean the hubby did this. Thank you, Hubby!

Again we ran into a snag. see that stupidly ugly line of wood filler along the bottom of the top drawer? I hated it. The hubby said it was okay but no.... I *hated* it.

It's the only thing I saw and still see looking at these pictures... So.... I stripped and sanded and re-filled.

Pre-poly. But SO much better!

Pardon the clutter. We started a new renovation on >>>>> that wall. I still need to get knobs for the doors but, alas, we are stuck inside due to the two...(well it *has* melted a little)....foot and a half of snow that's outside. We can't get out of the drive way. (we live out in the middle of nowhere and don't have a 4-wheel drive truck) Anyway.. I was thinking the clear glass knobs? Opinions? Oh! I also (thanks to CentsationalGirl) used Brasso to clean the up the original handles. They looked so much better!
